Burials

As of July 31, 2025, the Sugarland Ethno-History Project will allow no services to be permitted inside the Sugarland church—including funerals and weddings—until the aging and dangerous floorboards of the church can be replaced. We expect the floors to be replaced in late 2025 or the first half of 2026. Small group tours will still be permitted. We look forward to making the church interior safe for large groups again, now and for generations to come.
The process for burials is overseen by other descendants of Sugarland founding families, in cooperation with the funeral home of your choice. If needed, the Sugarland Ethno-History Project can review cemetery maps that outline family plots to help you identify the most appropriate location for the interment of you or your family member.
Services and burials may take place only on Saturdays. We are grateful for a donation of $250 per service and/or burial. All funds will be used by the nonprofit Sugarland Ethno-History Project to pay for ongoing upkeep of the cemetery grounds, including lawn care, weed trimming, and tree maintance, as well as for monthly utilities and upkeep of the church.
